Anyone know what the road conditions are up to Nightingale? I was going to come up from the Nixon side, through Coyote Canyon with a long wheelbase 4WD pickup.

Thanks OJ. Pershing is one of the few counties I have spent little time in. Maybe when I get to move up north......

I just signed on to this site and discovered this post...I travelled the loop from I-80 to Nightingale to Nixon, NV last Saturday (8/5/2006 - 130 mile loop). The road is in good shape, no 4WD needed on the loop at all. I made the trip in a crewcab Ford...so most anything can make it. Hope this helps...

I went back up to Nightingale to get some limestone to do my bathroom in...lots of silicated limestone...beautiful!

Anyways, there is epidote crystals (http://www.mindat.org/min-1389.html) available up there too...nice crystals. The shaft to find the crystals are above and to the left of this stack:

When you drive up from I-80 follow the frontage road at the hot springs until the pavement ends. Then it just turns into dirt...follow it. When you pass under the power lines (about 15 miles north of I-80) stop and look for limb castings (petrified wood) under the lines...
