Does anybody out there combine ghosttowning and gold prospecting in the same trip.? If so, have any of you found any gold? And if so, I'd like to hear about it...............

I know a mine in Ely where there's all the fool's gold one could want. Gave a big chunk mixed in solid quartz to a friend once, was a nice specimen.

I actually have some ore samples I need to get checked out some day myself. I usually just go "Oooh pretty rock!" and toss it in the truck :D

When it comes to raw minerals, I'm actually pretty clueless.

Hey Flatiron, I used to live in Northern Cali. A couple hours inland from San Francisco area. There is a bunch of gold mines everywhere up there. I'm sure you knew that the gold rush that made every one "move west" happened there. But there is all kinds of old mine camps, and GT's. They are still mining there too, used to be big time when I lived there. Over ten years ago. I rember my dad took me up there to go pan down stream from the big mines. All we found was fools gold and alot of it.

You could really be in for a treat if GaryB follows through on his plans to come out here to Kalifornia, and have fun everywhere and anywhere.

Well Flatiron, every day I walk into my office and admire the nuggets I have dispalyed on my desk. Yes I did find them at Ghost Towns. And No I won't tell you which ghost town.

I was up in the mountains this weekend and it is about time for me to go prospecting again. Always a good time right as the snow starts to melt and we get some good run off. Typical I use a metal detector and search the old tailings and then go through the stream beds as they start to dry out.

By the way I added 5 ghost towns to my site this weekend.

PS - how is the video coming?

You don't have to give up the ghost towns, but can I swing by your work and take you to lunch sometime next week?

I actually try to not go any farther than the Mojave Preserve for fun these days. Maybe someday go visit the towns outside Death Valley. But since I live in Vegas, the only thing that is different from here and there is my Nevada drivers license

why not past Mojave B

I've been all over Southern California racing and site seeing, family, etc. Not much new for me to see or do. Plus I really, really, can't stand crowds; like the freeways, cities, sports events, etc. Not many folks hang out in the Mojave. Nice and quiet. I'll take Death Valley over Disneyland any day ;)

I used to live in the Sierra Foothills, just outside of Sonora, and know the Mother Lode very well. Lots of gold still around...........:D

I'm sure he is ****** at you now, but you could still make it, well have a big party with all the newbee's from here. I'm sure you would have a blast.

Actually its funny that I'm still here, I too hate most of if not all of the people here. Shallow all of 'em, and yes there is alot of 'em too.

We'd probably get arrested anyway. I don't think any of us have eco-friendly electric Toyota's to cruise the malls and car pool lanes in. That or we'd offend some Scientologist when we told them Calico really isn't the landing zone for the mother ship and we'd get thrown out.

Well to at least to Barstow anyway.

And don't bother moving here. Too many folks from there are moving here, complaining about how it sucks in California, then changing the laws so it's more like home

Imagine this, you can get fined for raising dust, even though this is a desert

haha, Ya, I live near San Fransicko myself and can't wait to move out of here. I plan on moving to Reno in a year, and no, I don't plan on bringing the leftist agenda with me. I wan't to leave the socialists as far behind as possible. :)

Ewww, you're going to be a Northerner? LOL. Actually, this place is kind of like California in a way. There's LA, and every where else.

Here it's Nevada, and Las Vegas :D

I'd rather be in the Nevada part myself.

How about I meet you somewhere. I suspect you are thinking you might get a chance to walk out with the gold... Besides it is a long drive for a lunch meeting.

Sounds like me when ever I set foot in the state of Minnesota. Always have to get to the Lion's Tap in Chaska for a Burger.
