DV Echo Canyon trail

Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone's ventured up Echo Canyon trail since last years flash floods early in the year? Also, how did the Westside Rd. canyons fare? Thanks a bunch.

Don't know about Echo and such, but the east caught some **** last month from mother nature. We had 4X club run planned through Titus and it was closed do to rock slides in the canyon.

Hi All,
As it turns out, Echo Canyon is fine and dandy.

On the other side, the Goler Wash area was pretty fun. Last time I went through there was about 10 years ago- it's changed a bit.;) - Doug

Where is the Echo Canyon trail? Sounds like a fun run.

It runs between Furnace Creek Wash west of Furnace Creek above Furnace Creek in Death Valley, over the Funeral Range to the Amargosa Desert.

I've not done the entire run, but have done both sides by truck or foot. You can see photos and description of either on my website and one other at:

My son and I just did both Echo Canyon and Goler Wash/Striped Butte/Mengel Pass this last summer during our 2008 Summer Desert Trip.

Both were not really all that technical, with Mengel Pass probably being a little more rough. I wouldn't take a rental-anything over either one, but any decent 4wd vehicle with a shorter wheelbase should be OK. Most of it is just gravel road with a couple stairstep rough spots.

There was a lot of rain in DV this summer while we were there. For example, the cutoff road from Beatty to Furnace Creek was closed most of the week we were there. The Saline Valley road just next to the marsh was very rough and the trail up to Steel Pass from the Upper Springs for about 2 miles was gone. We had to pick our way via my Garmin Nuvi 260W until we could pick up the trail again just below Steel Pass.
