I'll do it...lol If nothing else maybe Mr. Ghosttowns.com will take note that I downloaded all 386mb of his site with "Offline Explorer Pro 4.4"...all 16700 files...LOL

I am going through the files now and deleting the crap...and keeping the stuff like Ghost Town locations and pictures and the state maps...hehehehe If no one is interested in letting someone moderate this forum or even do updates to the site then I am more then willing to host the information up on the net.

So whoever is in charge here, take note this site can be a "has been" real quick....so either do something or watch this place die a slow death.

everything on ghosttowns.com is under copyright - everything that is submitted is single use to gt.com - you would have to get permission from every single person who has submitted to this site, the one thats been featured in the smithsonian and other big names like that, in order to steal its content - if it were me, wouldnt be worth the battle, but totally up to you - check the us copyright laws first though.

we do it almost every day - we removed approximately 50+ posts/week, we have banned countless users - about 20/week - why they heck does everyone say we dont do anything - thats just plain ludicrous - we skip a day or 12 hours and everyone starts flaming in the forums about it - the problem it that there is so much of it, because ghosttowns.com is so poplular, that all the people who have volunteered to moderate dont have a clue how much they would have to be glued to the forums 24/7 to stop anything from every being seen - so far, no moderator of this forum has ever spent more then about every other day on average checking things out and cleaning things up ever day or two - thats about what is to be expected - still not sure why anyone would have any other expectations other then that...

No problems - its just frustrating for us. Three guys have donated well over twenty five thousand hours into this site and paid for it since 1998, thousands and thousands of people have submitted towns, pictures, videos, colums etc... and since we either only get people who want to get paid to "volunteer" or who just want to complain -- we have to spend quite a bit of our time pursuing plagiarizers too - never ever lost though - we will always protect our volunteers and submitters - of course everyone who submits is free to allow their content to be used anywhere else, any other site would have to get permission directly from the submitters.

We currently add about 200+pics a month and about 20 towns a month to the site and make dozens of submitted corrections - in that, we weed out about 100 bogus town submissions and a dozen boguz pictures as well as we deal with all the spam that comes in through our town submission forms. We take a few calls a day, people always wanting to know how to get here or there etc... and many many other things which arent worth listing - and we do it all as volunteers, for the good of the site - no pay - anyone want to volunteer?

...forgot to add - we deal with hate mail, hate phone calls etc... all the time as well - people insist such and such is not a ghost town or some guy went on someones property last week and its our fault or there was a spelling error and how dare we etc... we get accused of spamming the world too from ghosttowns.com even though the only email that ever leaves ghosttowns.com is from this forum for new user registration and PM's - other then that when we hit about 10,000 spams a day coming into ghosttowns.com email, we had to stop using it alltogether so no mail goes out from ghosttowns.com except whats on this forum period...

Wow, I am extremelly thankful you put up with all that, and still keep the site up and running.

I'm very very pleased with your work.

Thanks!

Ghosttowns.com, Thanks for responding. I think it's pretty safe to say that most of us are grateful for the work you've put into this forum as well as the GT site. I'm sure at times it must feel like a thankless job, but take heart, it really is appreciated.
There's not another site on the web in my opinion that contains the wealth of knowledge on the subject of GTs along with the history that this one does...even if we have to wade through the mierda del toro at times to get to it. ;)
Again, thank you for administrating this forum and performing all the duties it takes to keep it up and running.

Wow, some of you folks can push some buttons on a Friday afternoon can't you.

I too appreciate the site and the upkeep/work that it entails, and trust me; I do know what it entails. I think the thing that was sending bad vibes is the lack of communication from an Admin's side, especially at the offers of help. A simple "no thanks" would have sufficed, after all , it's your house.

Now, who brought the chips?

My stomach can't tolerate chips anymore, but I mix a great Metamucil/gin cocktail.

I received an email from Todd, I told him I did not want to be paid to be a moderator (I would never expect that), just wanted to help out. So I guess I'll see what happens.

Sorry if I over-reacted, but your earlier post appeared to be a threat of a hostile takeover by a relative newbie. If I was wrong, my profound apologies. If not, then you can Kiss my Indian A**. OJ

I was just provoking the Admin to do something...seemed to have worked. My point being it is easy to recreate the board and the site in no time, so they better watch out because someone could just say bye bye to them...LOL

Oh, by the way it looks like you are the Newbie, I joined in Feb 2004, MR. Sept...hehehehe

And do you mean American Indian A** or actual Indian A**???? I'm not sure I would want to kiss something that smells like curry. :p

I can only be sympathetic to the moderators. The amount of spam and unsolicited crap they must have to deal with just boggles my mind. With a site of this type with this much traffic I am amazed we donít see more junk. We can all help a little by identifying posts that are not accurate.

I think you do a good job.

Laura: Other than Modette's one post, to which I object, she seem's clearly to be a kindred spirit. I only objected to what I saw as disrespect for the folks that keep this site going. It sure ain't me, or you, or Bob, Johnnie, Flatiron, TW, Another Bob, Rocky, or anyone else. I hope she sees that as well, and will become a welcome contributor to this site. I've already enjoyed some of her contributions to this site, and , I expect, will profit from more. Mike

OJ, I have no doubt that Modette is probably a kindred spirit as well.
My concern is with what I perceive to be his/her? rather heavy-handed approach in threatening a hostile takeover of the GT Forum. Modette's explanation of "just provoking Admin to do something" still contained the same threat that it would be easy to recreate this board, plain and simple, I disagree with his/her method.

I don't think we'll have too much to worry about, as far as a takeover goes, since they booted that pervert brian. You notice since I started posting that fat loser is too chicken to say a word- he knows I'll put a size 12 snakeskin boot up his asz if he does.

Laura: I find in my experience that it is not unusual for two sexigenarians such as ourselves to disagree. So be it. My wife and I disagree from time to time. In 37 years perhaps as many as 409,987 times. But I've won a time or two. Where there's life, there's hope. OJ

My wife just saw the last post and I must amend. Agreed only once. It was when she said "You will be at the church on time tomorrow, won't you? Your will remember, won't you?? Just how much have you had to drink???" And I said, " Yes, Yes, and not much." OJ
