Hi ghosttowners!
We're going to be visiting the Grand Tetons, Yellowstone area next month and would love to see some ghosttowns or other interesting back road things while there. Any hints? We're also driving through the Black Hills of SD on our way back to Minnesota so anything in the State of WY or SD or Southern MT would be wonderful. Thanks for any help.

There are several in SW Montana, but at least visit Bannack, and Virginia City. There's a "western town" near Cody Wy, Custer Battlefield SE Mt, Devil's Tower NE Wy, and several small ghost towns in the Black Hills. (This website has more details, use the drop-down menu at top of any page, where it says "United States").

Fort Laramie NHS SE Wy is well worth the effort. A few back roads adventure guides are also recommended, especially if you're more interested in going off the beaten path.

Yup, off the beaten path is where we want to go, definately. Thanks for the info and if anyone has any other info, it's appreciated. We've seen several of the small GT's in SD, but none in WY, MT or ID. Thanks again, WAM

BTW...where are the back road adventure guides? That's more what we're looking for, we've seen the usual stuff you mentioned, Custer battlefield, devils tower and the rest in that area. WAM

You might try Coolridge Mt. It is just South of Wise River, which is South of Butte, Mt. It is listed on this web site and is really off the beaten path. We really enjoyed it. Its a little North of Bannack.

You might want to try Coolidge, Mt. It is just South of Wise River which is South Of Butte, Mt. Also its North of Bannack. It is really off the beaten path, and we really enjoyed seeing this old mining town......no one within miles. There pictures of it on this web site.

Sporting Goods stores, and coin shops usually, but several other retail stores carry the guides. Also check the RV & Trailer sales Parts depts.
