Haven't heard much from here. Most of the bad fires around Elko, NV have been in the low lying fields from what I have heard. Last I heard we might over take Texas for the most acreage burnt this year. IIRC the total was around 1.97 million acres.

I read the NDOW is going to have special hunts to try to thin out the Pronghorn antelope and trap and relocate the rest due to the severity of the fires. So much land has been burnt, they fear the antelope won't be able to compete with the Mule deer for food and shelter.

Just read the fire reports. Seems a few of the old, still working ranches have been evacuated and the towns of Midas and Tuscarora are in danger, but haven't yet been evacuated.

Some useful links:

Knock on wood, our fire season here in my neck of the woods has been much better than in recent years. Quite a few of our desert areas are just now beginning to recover from last years' huge fires. (no GTs were lost that I've heard about) Hopefully with the monsoon rains we're having, we'll be out of immediate danger.
One small fire was started by lightening in the area near the road to "my" Blue Bird mine a few months ago, but it was quickly extinguished.

I know a fire up here in Washington was threatening the old mining town of Steheikan on Lake Chelan, of which all but the 50 some residents had been forced to evacuate, but I haven't heard much lately, so I'm assuming the fire was put under control.
