Hi,
Long story short, I teach map reading to college students in my Forest Measurements class. I just designed a tutorial for my students and thought maybe someone here could use it (we all, at one time or another, have been frustrated by using 2D topo quad maps in a 3D world).
This tutorial uses three pieces of free software to develop 3D topomaps in GoogleEarth. The tutorial is 20 pages long (lots of photos) and is about 1.5 Mbytes in pdf format. If you are interested in the tutorial it can be found at:
http://h1.ripway.com/nlemerise/Forestry/HowtoUseMappingSoftware.pdf (http://h1.ripway.com/nlemerise/Forestry/HowtoUseMappingSoftware.pdf)
http://www.mediamax.com/nlemerise/Hosted/How%20to%20Use%20Mapping%20Software.pdf
Suggestions and feedback would be most appreciated (particularly by my students next semester :D )!
Thanks...
Neal
