Hello.

I am looking for directions to the Canyon Diablo Trading Post.

I have been out to CD and the surrounding areas many times and have yet to find this building.

I have been told that it is about 3 miles down the canyon... but that is about it. It was pictured in a Arizona Highways photoshoot within the last 6 months I believe. I think it was green... and that is about all I remember... sadly. :o

Any ideas?
I'm going surching for it tomorrow.

From Legends Of America:
Canyon Diablo (http://www.legendsofamerica.com/AZ-CanyonDiablo.html) is south of I-40 between Meteor City, and Flagstaff (http://www.legendsofamerica.com/AZ-Flagstaff.html), Arizona (http://www.legendsofamerica.com/66-ArizonaMain.html). Take the Two Guns (http://www.legendsofamerica.com/AZ-TwoGuns.html) Exit (#230). The road to Canyon Diablo (http://www.legendsofamerica.com/AZ-CanyonDiablo.html) is immediately right of the old gas station in Two Guns (http://www.legendsofamerica.com/AZ-TwoGuns.html).
This is a rough road and best traveled with a four wheel drive; however, if conditions are good, and you take your time, it could be taken in a regular car. The road is very rocky, so caution should be taken with any low seated vehicle.

You are welcome but that is not first hand knowledge. I did a cut and paste of the info.

Hello, the trading post you are looking for is about 3 miles NORTH of I40. Take the Two Guns exit and go north towards the train tracks. You will see the grave for Hermann Wolf out in the middle of no-where, look to the north across the tracks and I believe that is the trading post. The road is rough so make sure you are in a truck or a car with high clearence.

If you need more info, email me at: hunk-of-junk@cox.net

The trading post you see north of the Wolf grave is the Volz trading post, but not the one that the Az Highways showed a pic of recently. That other post is likely west of the canyon, probably along the tracks. Not sure, though.

The Volz trading post dates from 1886 or so. You can find pics of it online. The other one I have yet to find information on.

Anyone who wants the story of Canyon Diablo town should go to http://www.hkhinc.com/arizona/twoguns/richardson.htm
...the entire text of "Two Guns AZ" is there, which talks about Diablo as well.:D
