My brother and I were out looking for Old Aberdeen but we could not find it. We just got lost around the logging roads about 25 miles from present day Aberdeen. Does anyone out there have directions on how to get to the Old Aberdeen the ghost town. Thanks.

There's an old post on these forums talking about it, here:

http://forums.ghosttowns.com/showthread.php?t=6691

At the bottom Whitetiger98623 says
hey go to old aberdeen washington over torwards the coast 25 miles north east of thair is an old town called old aberdeen and thair is a hloe bunch of stuff thair
I live in Oregon, have never heard of it myself. I would try to find OLD maps of Washington at libraries, maybe in Olympia or some other such place like a historical society in Seattle.

edit: Also, if you want a companion I'd be willing to go along on the next search.

I would be welling to take you next time I try and search. I'll try and find a old map with the place on it. Anyhow, if you hear or find anything that would help let me know. I have a lead on a ghost town nearer to seattle. Its called Galena, and thats the next site I hope to find. Do you know where any sites are near you?

This link shows 2 places called Aberdeen, in Chehallis County (look for green color on the coast). BTW, you can get any state 1895 map by just changing "WA" to "OR", "CA", etc. in the link.

Hey Bad Bob thanks for the link to the Washington 1895 map its a big help. It appears that Old Aberdeen could be south of courent day Aberdeen, I was looking north. Anyhow, Have you heared or know about a town called Galena? Its a town thats on that 1895 map near Index. Does anyone know if therers anything there?

That's a neat map there. Look at the rest of Chehalis County, do you see Tunnel City there? I wonder if that still exists, or maybe was re-named?

A realtor is selling property on a "Galena Rd" here http://realestate.yahoo.com/Washington/Index/Homes_for_sale/29f99923b6a2041eb81c5559c3cd07f7
the map on the website there prompted me to search YahooMaps.
(It's amazing how many ghost towns show up on Mapquest, Google, Yahoo!) and I think I found it.

Looks like it's East of Sultan, down HW 2, (Steven's Pass Highway). Off of 2, Galena-Index Rd follows the North Fork Skykomish River.
Where Galena is marked is way up the river fork, however, right next to highway 2 is some sort of community with a railroad. The realtor's webpage calls it Index. It has a "Doolittle Pioneer Park" there, I wonder if it's a park with a historic plaque or maybe it's just a park.

Don't think I'll be exploring it, it's a quite a drive from Oregon. But I hope this helps.
