While thumbing through the September, 1967 issue of Desert Magazine, I saw an article about this cave near Two Guns, Arizona. Here is one of the few articles I could find about it on the net; http://www.hkhinc.com/arizona/twoguns/bigwest.htm . Does anyone know anything more about it? Sorry for the sloppy post- I'm off to work now...

Here's the basic story; A band of Apache attack a Navajo village while the Navajo warriors were away. Navajo return and quickly set out to find them. Apaches are discovered and trapped in a cave, and the Navajo smoke the cave and kill the offending Apaches. Everyone around avoids the area like the plague for years, and the few who brave the area are besought with bad luck, death, etc. Some reports say the cave is part of a huge cavern system, but I can't find any modern info on whether the cave has ever been explored or not. Maybe cavers know it by another name, and aren't aware of its history or something. Just curious if anyone has heard any of this before.

Do a search on here for Diablo Canyon, it's been covered before and some good info was posted just lately.

Thanks Gary, but the search was fruitless as far as the cave part goes. I'm gonna keep looking, tho.

I've read about this before, can't think of where though.

Yep Brian, never thought I'd say this but we may have to fire up the "Mystery Machine" on this cave thing!

Thanks for the link Tom, that was a good read with lots of info about the area. I'm with you on this one, I've read something about this before (in book form perhaps), and tho it seemed intriguing and noteworthy at the time, well..., I just didn't make a note of it!

Laura, thanks for the bump in the road- it jolted me out of a Nyquil induced coma. My wife has this cold too, and sounded like the ghost of Barry White this morning. Not a pleasant voice to wake up to after 11 years of marriage!

I've really got a brain-itch on this one, it SEEMS like I've read somewhere that there could be miles of unexplored labyrinth there, but I don't recall ever reading anywhere where someone has tried to do it. Maybe it's just a tiny part of a larger (now after 40 years) well known, thoroughly explored system that's known by a different name or entrance.

Time to toothpick-up the eyelids and start looking again...
