Down? Are you in the Vegas area?

Hey everyone! Long time no see! Are any of you northern Utah folks planning on heading out any time soon? Now that I've finally had my baby (and yes, she's doing great!) and things are settling down here, I'm itching to get out and do some exploring again, especially after being pregnant and on *almost* bed rest all summer. I would love to join somebody if anyone up here is planning anything anytime soon. Let me know!

I may be doing a brief 2 or 3 hour trip around Broward and the south edge of Lake Okechobee next week. I'll post some photos if I actually go. Otherwise nothing until next year, unfortunately.

Fortunately I was able to get out for a few hours the Wednesday before Thanksgiving to take that little trip.

Stopped by a few places I'd seen before and ventured over to some other stops along the way.

Visited the Deem City and Terrytown area, found evidence of a former resident:

and possibly old Clifton Lirette's mailbox lid?

nearby at the now renamed Stormwater Treatment Area 3/4 Public Small Game Hunting Area, found an old sign most likely from the Terrytown Sod Farm and Hunting Preserve days:

that's old wood riveted onto a metal beam

My first stop before Deem City was Andytown. http://www.ghosttowns.com/states/fl/andytown.html

I walked out onto the site along US27

at certain spots I could feel concrete underneath the grass and even found a few exposed areas:

also found old pvc pipe and concrete remnants along the edge of the c-a-n-a-l bordering Andytown:

right as I walked over to the edge an alligator jumped off the rocks into the water and swam away (he may have recalled back when the Andytown diner turned his old buddies into gatortail sandwiches)

Pretty interesting MMW. Hope you didn't go alone. If the gator had gotten ya, your new bride may never know what happened!

I'd have jumped high enough to clear the river. Anyway thanks for the info and pics. :)

Heading north past Andytown and Deem City/Terrytown I got to the old ghost locations of Fruitcrest and Okeelanta.

I've been to these two a few times in the past but always like to drive over when I'm in the area. Even though nothing really is there I like it because there's not that many places in Palm Beach County you can go without seeing cars and houses and people everywhere

Here's a stylized shot I took of the New River C-a-n-a-l which acts as a border between the two sites
