: John, there are many SD ghosttowns but we havent gotten that far east yet. Go to this address http://www.ghosttowns.com/books.html and then use the search engine on the bottom to search for books on SD ghost towns, there are a few out there - I have seen them.

Most ghost towns in South Dakota are in the Black Hills or immediately around it. There are a small number of abandoned railroad ghost towns in Eastern South Dakota. Oakaton is one of these and is right on the interstate.

I will be searching for more of these ghost towns this season to put in my next book, Ghost Towns of the Prairie.

I suggest following railroad lines, especially abandoned ones and using old state highway maps to find ghost town locations in eastern South Dakota.

Check out my new book, Ghost Towns and other Historical Sites of the Black Hills, due out April 8th.
email me at bar4916@yahoo.com for more details and if you have further questions.

Happy Hunting!
