Back in the 70's, I loved Calico! Spent lots and lots of time there. North east of the town there were lots of cool tunnels left over from the 1880's we used to explore. Found a few artifacts as well, one being a complete (Empty) wooden "Hercules" explosives box that must have been from the 1880's or 1890's. Some of these old tunnels even had live bats hanging in their sleep! Great photography as well!

Yup, know what ya mean. These photos go back into the 50's but I also spent many days up there during the 70's and always ended going up through Odessa and Mule Canyons where there were still remains of mining camps in Odessa with foundations up on the sides of the canyon walls. Those were great times. Used to camp in the Calico Campground when it was first opened. In fact, I used to give ghost town slide programs at the evening weekend campfire gatherings at the campground. Who knows, we may have even known each other back then.
