A few weekends ago, I went out to the Total Wreck Mine (and town site) in southern Arizona. Not much left of either, but it was a fun trip nonetheless. Here's a few pictures and a link to the trip.

Gas line road
Fun hills
Is this why they call it Total Wreck :-)?
All that's left except lots of holes

Nice pix, thanks for the update. when I was last there, about 8 years ago the gas line road was gated & locked. I went in from the Hilton ranch road. So...is the gas line road open now?

Also there is a short on the access station here from about 89' that was made on the TW history
that indicatess the town site was on the ridge above the mill. Did you explore up there? Not I'd expect to find much.

Anyway, Total Wreck has the best ever name!

The gas line was open, at least when I went. It was a real fun ride. We didn't get a chance to look for the town site, but I don't think there's much left. Here's a link to a friend of mine who found what was left of the town site. Yeah, what a great name for a mine!

Here is a picture of the Total Wreck mine taken by F.C. Schrader in 1909.

Matt, thanks for that link. The "then & now" photo's with the building placements put it all in perspective. JEC, that's a great shot of the mill from back in the day. Hadn't seen that one before.

The date of the photo is actually 1906, not 1909 like I stated. Here is a link to a USGS site that has a couple other photos of the Total Wreck mine. There are hundreds of neat old pictures of mines, minerals, etc. to check out. http://libraryphoto.cr.usgs.gov/. I'm always amazed at how the old photos commonly show huge structures at these old town and mine sites but there is now almost nothing to show that they ever existed.

Matt, that link had some great pictures in it. I really enjoy seeing the repeat photography.

JEC, thanks for that USGS link. I don't know how I missed that. I'll spend days exploring it.

Wow! What a great reference site. I'll also be spending a few days exploring it (hopefully, not getting in the way with Vulture :-). Thanks!!!!
