Does anyone know if the mountain top is still the same (empty)-if the ghost town of Nevadaville is still the same--and what's going on in Central City--the time i was there, i heard it was headed for a change (slot machines etc.)!!

: I have not been there for some time but I understand that casinos are everywhere, they even want to move the "Gingerbread House" in Blackhawk to make room for parking. I suspect that Nevadaville has also been adversely impacted. I plan to visit the area this Sept...will know more then. I'm sure the photo-ops have changed considerably. Stephen

The locals feel they own the entire area and tend to call the police if they see you hiking around to much. Try checking out the Nevadaville Museum, it is in the top floor above the old General Store. It is run by Ken Kosanke who lives in the area. Central City hasn't changed much except for several new casinos, this is mainly due to the fact that the main road goes through Blackhawk first before getting to Central City. Blackhawk is another story. The original town has been totally destroyed by big business gambling. All the original buildings have been either gutted, torn down, or moved to make room for more and more multi-million dollar casinos. Entire mountains have been bulldozed to make room for parking lots and housing for casino employees. I'm afraid the same fate is in store for Central City as they are trying to build a new highway up Russell Gulch from I-70. If you plan to see any of whats left of these towns you should do it soon before the greed of the casino owners consumes the entire area. Mike.

The mountain top is still open but to area across the gulch from Navadaville is being bought up by a land developer. It would appear that soon the mine ruins will be replaced by condo's. This was learned from the gentelman who owns the small store in the town.

The old City Hall and seveal stone buildings are still there, 3 are used as part time antique shops with lots of old "stuff". The people that operate them are very friendly and knowledgeable of the area. I was there this weekend, and have hidden a geocaching cache above the old town site. If you would like pictures of the area, contact me and I have several that shows the town as it is today, and some that show it in "the good old days"

Yeah there are TONS of casinos here now...but some of them have/are going out of buisiness. Nevadavill is still a ghost town with like 3 houses. I went up there yesterday. New roads have been planned out because people are wanting to begin remodeling the town...i dont think it'll be to long before they begin construction...

we were therer in June of this year, the General store in Nevadaville is still there as is the man who owns it. He said six people are living in the town. We checked out the Mason Hall in Central City, not much else left there other than a pawn shop and the Casinos. The have 300 residents there according to the historian in town.Apparently they cannot change the outside historical aspect of the city by historical society guidlines. We went to the old cemetaries in the town, including the haunted Mason Cemetary. We were told manny people in the town have had experiences with the ghost there. I think more people were out there four wheeling then checking out the towns!

I got a note from this guy trying to sell his gold mine. I don't know if he is ligit or not... But if you want a part of a gold mine you can call him. It was on Quartz mountain so it probably was a decent producer at one time.

Here is his info -
I own 25% of a gold mine in Nevadaville called the sullivan load 88 that I would like to sell. My phone number is 814-274-7343
