Well, I finally finished getting everything online from my August 2012 Nevada and Mojave trip! You can read about it starting here:

http://www.raydunakin.com/Site/Nevada_Trip_2012_Part_One.html

I had a really great time and saw a lot of amazing things, including many old mines and mining camps, pioneer ranches, a mercury mill, deer, antelope, wild horses, a scorpion that glows blue in UV light, an operating steam train, and a totally unexpected surprise at a stock tank in the middle of nowhere!

In addition to the photos I have some video of the steam train at Ely, NV and brief video tours of some mines, as well as a very short clip of some antelope racing past my Trooper and dashing across the road.

Cloudy skies kept me from seeing the peak of the Perseid meteor shower, but I did get to see quite a few meteors on the last night of my trip.

I also have posted a new video on YouTube, a sort of "mini-documentary" about a female alligator lizard who took up residence in a small cave on our outdoor model railroad. She laid her eggs in the cave and stayed with them until the first egg hatched. You can see me feeding her, see her guarding the eggs, and see the hatchlings as they gradually make their way out into the world:

Enjoy!

Thats really cool Ray. I had the video of the train and my 2 yr old grandson watched it with me. Now he wants to see it over and over.

Wow Ray, awesome thread!
I'm planning a trip from Idaho through southern Nevada.
( Wells>Ely>Caliente>Tonopah>Austin> Eureka>Elko )

Your link has given me several more places to add to my itinerary.
Awesome stuff!

I had hope I could hit it all in ten days, but that may be overly optimistic.

Thank you very much for posting!

Looks like a good place for me too. but is it possible to take kids also to this place? Will they enjoy or get bored in this place? I would like to have some reviews on it. I have some amazing places that can be visited with the entire family. Learn more (http://feelday.com/activities/filter/q?mood=lucky&schedule=this+weekend&location=Boston) .

Public Service Announcement.......

I just completed a 2100 mile "Ghost Town" loop of Nevada.
( More on that later )
The mill at the "Red Rock Mine" is gone!
It took me a few minutes to figure out I wasn't
in the wrong place.

The pics are from 4/16/13.
Anyway, there's not a whole lot left to check out.
I thought I might save someone the trouble of heading
all the way out there. Your results may vary.
