Almost every time I visit here there is a long list of users with long screwy names. As far as I can tell none has ever posted but sometimes their activity is shown as creating a new post. Also they are often modifying profile, PM'ing or regestering. Looks suspicious to me.

Anybody know what's going on?

Hey Mr V,

Could they be bots? That's normal. Just a guess...

Yeah, I always see a few bots in the current users list, but these seem to be regestered & have crazy gibberish user names. I've seen as many as 10 at the same time.

This is something fairly new.

They are spammers and spam bots.

Spammers spamming their little hearts out while I'm banning them and deleting their trash. The moderated post set up works great. One did over 1000 posts in a day.

Thank you GaryB. I can sleep well now.

Yeah, they don't waste much time spamming up sites that don't have any security in place. At least this forum has security to catch them before they become a problem.
