: Follow up on Ghost towns. I have an old mining cabin which was
: originally built in Atolia California during the tungsten diggings
: there and then moved up to Red Mountain 5miles north off the 395 Hwy.It was moved
: there in 1930. It is neat little cabin with 2 outhouses and presently now has
: indoor plumbing. Great front porch to sit out on at nights.
: Red Mountain was an area where silver was mined in the
: around the late 1920's. It is near Randsburg. and one of the four towns there.
: Atolia,Johanesburg,Randsburg and Red Mountain.
: During the 1930's Red Mountain had liquor flowing and several mall
: brothels. These were often connected by under ground tunnels.
: People from L. A. would take the train up there.
: Today there are 130 people living there. Red Mountain
: is 3600 ft elevation. The mountain itself goes up to about 52oo ft in elevation.
: Randsburg is still has an active gold mine. Some of the
: people who live in Red Mountain work there. Others work in Trona.
: Which has mineral dry lakes.
: Just a little info on the area.
: Red Mountain is 23 miles North of 4 corners on Hwy 395. 23 miles south of China
: Lake. 63 miles North of Victorville.
: Hope you enjoyed

Roland..........Is Red Mountain on Reservation land? I drive by Johannesburg and Atolia a few times a year and have stopped to check out a few mine shafts and buildings on the east/north? side of 395, just as you come into Atolia. There seems to be shafts and air vents all over the place. Pretty neat area to explore. Thanks for some of the history......:D
