Hello all,
I'm planning on visiting Bodie some time this month and was wondering if anyone had a recomendation of a good camp site. I have not explored this far North so the area is new to me.
I was looking into Virginia Creek Settlement in Bridgeport.Anybody stay there before? I'm also open to any good areas in the outback fee or free.
I'll be with my Boys 2 and 5 years old. Driving a 98 4Runner 4x4
Thanks in advance
Happy Trails,
Charles

If you like to primitive camp, you can camp just about anywhere, but not in Bodie itself. The ghost town of Masonic is a great place to primitive camp - there's a shady meadow with a campfire ring there. You can camp in Masonic then take the dirt roads over to Bodie the next day. Here's a link to a story my dog Jake wrote about his experiences camping in Masonic. http://explorehistoricalif.tripod.co...tcal/id22.html

Thanks for the info!
Hey Dan, I never got the cords. Did you PM them or e-mail them?
I knew I'd be hearing from you Mrs Vargo, Masonic sounds like a good spot to stay. I'll look into that area.

There's a couple motels on Virginia Creek. The only one I'm familiar with is Willow Springs, east side of the highway. A friend of mine, a Friends of Bodie member, always stays here. Typical motel type rooms.
You could always stay at the Dogtown Inn ... Ask Cecile about that one!

I stayed at Virgina Creeek in 2002.
The campground is out in the open with very few trees. However, there is a nice creek.
The restraunt has good food however it is a bit pricey for the portions.
My Dad told me about a campground he recently discovered near Bodie.
It's called Green Creek. Its on a dirt road approx 2 miles past the exit to Bodie on 395. South of bridgeport.

My Dad told me its an excellent place for fishing, and theres some places to go off roading. I myself haven't checked it out yet, so this is all from what I remember my Dad telling me.
If you ever go to Bodie again you my check it out, or anyone who stumbles upon this post looking fro a good site near Bodie may take a look at it.
Hello everyone,
I am new to this web site but am so glad to have found it!!!![]()
I am also planning a trip to Bodie on my way to Lake Tahoe this week. I just recently took a trip to Texas from California and noticed some of these ghost towns on the way and I was hooked!. Many little places in New Mexico. I was wondering if there was map of some sort that pointed out these awesome tresures.
If anyone might know of any other places of interest for me to stop at on my way to Tahoe other then Bodie, I would appreciate the info. I have also been to Donner Lake in North Tahoe and that was so beautiful but a bit sad and erri. All those people who parished there. The history there.
p.s would love to hear if anyone saw anything in these places..... such as ghosts
Thanks, Laura
