    Default Keota, Colorado

I am looking for anyone with information on Keota, Colorado.... One website states that
"KEOTA'S possible origin is from an "INDIAN" word translated.... "gone to visit" or "the fire is gone out" . I live in Keota, Choctaw Nation, Oklahoma. There are various opinions regarding the origin of the name of this town, none documented.... An author in an old publication, George Shirk, " Oklahoma Place Names" says it means " fire gone out ", from the Choctaw language. Until the last 10 -15 years that was just accepted as fact.... however now Choctaw linguists say NOT SO!... BUT, possibly a rough translation would be inCChoctaw... "no kindling wood". They also conclude that the name is possibly not even from the Choctaw language. The Quapaw tribe inhabited and claimed this area of Indian Territory at least 250 years prior to forced Indian Removal... in the 1830s, which brought the Choctaws here..... I noticed the similarities in the meaning ( according to the Keota, Colorado information page ) both translations resulting in NO FIRE , and wondered could there be a possible resoning of the two town names? I would appreciate any thoughts on this matter..
