    Default Goldtown, Nevada

Can anybody out west tell me the status of this town.
My dad and I visited 30 years ago and it was all but vacant.
I wonder if this place ever came back or is it still a ghost?

    Thumbs up

Are you sure it was called Goldtown? I know there are a quite a few variations of Gold-----, such as Gold Point , Goldville, Gold Hill, etc. I've not heard of Goldtown, though. I'll bet Johnnie and Sheila might be able to shed some light on this subject. Good luck in your search.

We have to agree with you Flatiron, we have not heard of Goldtown, Nevada either maybe if our fellow ghosttowner would give us all more information on what part of the state it was located all of us can do some more research and track it down, meanwhile if we get some more time we will do some more research. If Another Bob checks in today he may shed some light on this old mining camp of "Goldtown." Bob has more in his Nevada, history archives than we do.

    Happy Hunting

    Default Hmmm, Goldtown???

Either this is a town unknown to me, a name chosen and rejected by the post office for some town I know by another name or I agree, someone has confused Goldfield, Gold Hill, Golden Arrow, etc...

Default I'm convinced there ain't a Goldtown in Nevada

I did a search of my files for locales named Gold* in Nevada and came up with the following:

Gold Butte and Goldenrod in what is now Clark County
Gold Creek and Golden City in Elko County
Gold Hitt, Gold Horn, Gold Mountain, Gold Mountain Divide, Gold Net, Gold Point, Gold Reef, Goldfield and Goldfield Junction in what is now Esmeralda
    Goldville in Eureka County
Gold Run in what is now Humboldt County.
Gold Acres, Gold Hill (Not the famous one), Gold Park and Gold Quarts in Lander County.
Gold in Lincoln County was never big enough to be called a town.
    Goldy in Lyon County
Gold Bar, Gold Center, Gold Flat, Gold Hill (Again not the famous one), Gold Park, Gold Point, Gold Reed, Golden, Golden Arrow, and Goldyke in Nye County.
Goldbanks, Goldbud, and Golden Jacket in what is now Pershing
The famous Gold Hill in Storey County
Golden Valley in what is now Washoe County (Includes Roop or Lake County)

You will note there is no Goldtown. There are other places with gold in their name like Petersgold in Nye County but Iím convinced that Goldtown Nevada is a misnomer. It would be a good name for a Casino I suppose.

Thanks Bob, Great research. we have to agree with you and Flatiron,Our research came up with with a blank too, and that was our conclusion also, There was apparently no official listing of a mining camp by the name "Goldtown."
Maybe our fellow ghosttowner may have got the name incorrect.

Our guess is "Goldfield" too Flatiron, or one of the other towns that Bob has on his list. Hey!!! What happen to our fellow ghosttowner Onmilo??? This seems to be a mystery as much as trying to find "Goldtown".

Sorry for not getting back sooner, the reality of the real world,,,,,

Anyway after searching the sight I am now convinced the place was called Goldfield, not Goldtown.
I have read some threads here referring to a Hotel in Goldfield and I do remember a really big Hotel, totally unoccupied, that was in this town.

    Default Goldfield

Goldfield is still the country seat of Esmeralda County and has all the operational county facilities. The famous Santa Fe Saloon, one gas station, an operating post office and couple curio shops. The Hotel was indeed sold for back taxes and there is real hope that something will happen. Goldfield has been aggressively selling vacant buildings where back taxes are due and actually is in an arrested state of deterioration. This means something for a community with a couple hundred residents but even more when you consider that Goldfield was once the most cosmopolitan community west of the Mississippi, the largest town in Nevada and boasted the best of hotels, stores, and amenities. With a less than one hundredth of its heyday population, Goldfield is still home to a few and a magnificent page from early 20th century history for many, many more.
