Is this considered a Ghost Town in the making?

There is a unique small group of seven remaing structures about 1 mile off the coast of Key Biscayne in Florida, actually built on stilts in Biscayne Bay (just south of Miami.) There were orginially more than twenty of these buildings.

Because gambling laws required gambling locations to be at least a mile off shore, more than twenty of these structures were built in the days of Prohibition. There is a very colorful history of rum-running, gambling, organized crime, and Miami Vice style drug running. In fact, Stiltsville WAS featured on Miami Vice in the 1980s.

However, because their location in Biscayne Bay is a National Park (Biscayne National Park,) the current owners of the stilt houses will be evicted and no repairs may be made. Who knows what will remain after the next hurricane or two.

There is an organization to try to save Stiltsville, but not much has come of it in the last few years.

Therefore, I would like to offer Stiltsville as a Ghost Town in the making.

Here are two good sites featuring Stiltsville's history, tons of photos, and news.
