Just visited Steins Ghost Town in New Mexico. Quite a place, and well worth the visit. This time of the year, they are open only from Friday thru Monday. You are able to roam the outside free of charge, but the 40 minute tour costs $4 takes you into the residences chock full of artifacts, and is well worth the cost.

I think it's a restoration in progress. The owners, a couple from Phoenix live on site and give tours. Unforturnately, the main street of the down burned to the ground many years ago. However the remaining buildings, residences, a bordello, etc. are amazing on the inside, full of the stuff the last residents left when the down died.... I gotta go back again.
This website tells it all.

The daughter said that when Mom turned 65 she decided that she didn't want to work 7 days a week every week; so closed the place up. The billboards along the interstate still say it's open and should be removed or marked "CLOSED".
