The road is steep and rocky as pictured above. I went in with a stock '94 Jeep Grand Cherokee and it did fine. The tires on the other hand did not, I was running street tires and lost two the way out. Made for a long day....

I have an extended cab F350 I'd like to take out there. I am a novice 4x4er though, so I'm not sure how much that'll work.

There are no sharp turns to contend to. The road does not get traveled much with full sized vehicles though. The brush tends to grow into the roadway though and there is potential for some scratches. Also, if new to four wheeling this one you may want to wait on or go with someone that knows what they are doing. I always recommend going out with two vehicles too.

Thanks! I don't care about scratches at all, the paint is already in rough shape. I'm taking some 4x4 lessons in the near future and working on getting a friend or two to go also.

Thought I had better clear things up a bit. There are two Lowe's on Overland Rd. The meeting place is at Lowes parking lot 305 W Overland Rd. That is the Lowe's in Meridian not in Boise. It is a big parking lot so look for the yellow Jeep on the eastern (Meridian Rd) side of the parking lot. I will be leaving at 7:00 and it will be a good long day. The weather is looking really good for a day out in the desert.

Craters and Canyons coming Feb 27.
    Date: February 27
    Time: 6:30 am
Meet Place: Lowes parking lot 305 W Overland Rd, Meridian.
    Destination: Jordan Craters/Owyhee Canyon
    Estimated Duration: Full day
Distance/Round Trip: 250.00 miles, 6.18 hours drive time estimated
First stop Cow Lake recreation area. Small camp spot to check out maybe for future use. Then if you are ready for some wheeling adventures it is time to see the Owyhee Canyon. Of course to see it proper you must first traverse the road down into the canyon. And what will we see when we get down there? Well some hearty souls once lived down here in the early 1900's and they left us some places to check out. Then, if time permits, on to Jordan Craters, a cool spot to walk around and see different lava flows and of course the crater itself.

Plan on a good long day. Trip calculations come in at just a little over 6 hours of drive time, this includes driving into Jordan Valley for a fuel stop. Most of the trip is scenic and/or fun. Good tires are required for the Canyon road. I lost two street tires when I went in last time. Not fun..... A understanding of basic off road driving skills will be required for this stretch of road. Weather at this time could be good or bad and roads could have snow or mud. Come prepared for what ever is out there.
