    Smile East of Reno

Hi all! I'm heading over to Reno this weekend. Forget the casinos, I NEVER win anyway. My plan is to visit a handful of GTs in the area. Virginia City and the neighboring towns are on the list, but I'm looking for a little bit more of an adventure. It looks like there is quite a bit to see in the central counties and I don't mind the travel. I only have 2 days on this trip. Anything you think is a "must see"?

I was in the Reno/Virginia City area just a few years ago. I actually had a great time getting out and wandering around Gold Hill and Silver City and nobody bothered me while I was exploring, even though I'm sure I was on private property at some points. I also ventured up to the Pyramid Lake area (it's a reservation north of Sparks). There's a corral where they hold the wild horses after they've been rounded up on the way to Pyramid Lake. I didn't get to do the exploring there I wanted to do because my car ended up breaking down and I had to hike for miles for help (this is an extremely remote area). It seems like I have a very bad habit of breaking down in extremely remote areas. I seem to remember breaking down miles outside Milford, Utah on a dirt road on the way to Frisco and ended up hiking for miles through the desert that day too. Anyway, better luck on your travels. I've heard Pyramid Lake is cursed for white people, so be careful if you do decide to go there.

If you're in a rental car, V.C. will be about your only option. I wouldn't advise leaving the pavement unless you travel with someone who knows the area.

Good recommendation Rockcrusher. Many of the rental car agencies have a clause written into their contracts prohibiting off road use. That doesn't mean I haven't been guilty of doing EXACTLY that though........

I must not be white enough

Of course I spent money in Nixon, so maybe that gave me some good mojo.

Oops. Yeah that rental company didn't care much for the lovely new pinstripes we added to their Jeep. We're banned from renting there anymore.
