    Default AZ Mine Locations

Hi, I am new to the forum and just moved to Arizona. Does anyone know of any great mines to explore west of Phoenix.

I have been in over 300 mines in the west and would love to find some here.

    Thanks

Welcome to the forum and to Arizona as well!
You can order indivual county maps from the Arizona Deptartment of Mines and Mineral Resources. Here's a link, DMMR - Publication List you can either order by phone or print out an order form and mail it in with payment, no online ordering there yet. I find the maps are quite handy when you're on the trail and happen upon a mine, you can look up the information on the spot.
They've got some really good maps, all mines are listed, both old and new. Along with the maps they include a keybook, listing what was being mined at each particular location.
    Happy hunting.

    Default Vulture

south of Wickenburg, there is the quite well preserved old town of Vulture, and there was mining done there in the past. Its privately owned and a fee is charged to enter the grounds. Its truly authentic and very interesting.

The mines up in Gleeson are pretty cool, you've got to go hike up a wash and up a few hills but I think its worth it. There are a few mines that don't go to far in but also there are a few that go way back. The temperature drops the second you get in them and I never did find the end of one of them, we found a few half eaten rabits and some large feces, so I'm assuming mountain lion. Anyways didn't want to go any farther in there armed only with my knife. A few vertical shafts in there as well. Happy hunting stay safe.

Note: these old mines can be very dangerous and should not be entered but if you must......

Here's one I found just before Florence, AZ. Also some geodes in the area. 4 wheel drive is a must.

If you find this you're there.

Not sure how far in it goes as I didn't explore at the time. We were looking for geodes.
