Well, she's my hero now. 29....wow!Thank you Mrs. Darin. Actually, the place still doesn't look that different. Old Walter Knott took original pictures and recreated a lot of the old buildings right where they originally were. It's geared for the tourist but ya gotta remember that this was an actual town at one time with about 1500 people in it. If ya can look past the tourist crap, there's a lotta history here.

I didn't know there was a part 2, had to go back and look. Great pics as usual, my wife has always wanted to go there and it has peaked my interest even more looking at the pictures. Maybe a road trip this next spring is in order.

Temps get up over 100 about the 1st of May. Early in the Spring is good. Odessa and Mule Canyons, just to the east, are full of mines and old camps. You will need 4WD to explore those areas. I have quite a few more pics that I'll post in the next few days.

I know the area some what. I just never went to Calico. It's funny, all the things conveniently in my back yard and I drive 700 miles (and never leave the state mind you) to see stuff

Dang it-- your photos are giving me wanderlust again!

Oh well, I might as well do something now that baseball season is over.
