Thread: Patented Mining claims question.

  1. #1

    Default Patented Mining claims question.

The last I recall, you can live and build on a patented mining claim, is this correct?

If I were to live on such a place, I would keep everything as original as possible and not build new age garbage on it. So with that said, I am looking for something that is in Arizona, in the hills with some vegetation and away from people…..even an old ghost town would be nice, but I am sure you could not stay on this kind of premises’ very long, if at all.

Also, I would prefer to have something with an abandoned shack or cabin that could be restored to be a good hideout so to speak for the wife and myself…some place to enjoy and relax. Would anyone know where else I could look for claims with out buildings that are up for sale?

I have searched the net and found purchases like these below, but I am still looking for more resources and these are not patented claims. The second link is one of my favorites so far or at least the terrain is. I will admit, I like the tiptop area too, but it is a bit close to town for my needs or purpose.
I like the area of the last link and it is similar to what I have in mind. The country side is beautiful, no doubt!

Thanks for any help or advise ….it’s greatly appreciated

    Sounds like an adventure!

Maybe try Crown King...Mike there at the Mill might be a good resource (he bought one of the patented claims to build on), then Cindy's is a good spot to have a cold one, too.

There's plenty for sale up there, but I think a lot of it is pretty high dollar...

I have often thought a cabin out in the middle of nowhere would be real nice, too

Thanks for the reply. I am sure it is all high priced in CK, but it is worth a look see. I am sure something will come along or I will find it when least expected.

I think I will find a copy of the mining laws and see if you can live on a patented mining claim. I use to have a manual, but it got lost or misplaced a while back.

I'm pretty sure a patented claim comes with the deed - it's yours to do with whatever you like.

Here's a link you might find interesting.

I would think that in this day and age that an area that you would want to do serious research on would be your future responsibilities as the owner of the property. As an example, could you be held responsible for the cleanup of any hazardous materials or conditions present on the property even those created or left by previous owners?

Thanks for the link. I have her bookmarked. It looks like things have not changed too much regarding patented mining claims

Well, lets hope this is not true and I would think it would probably be unlikely they would require this sort of action from me.

Joe, . . thanks for the link. I am interested in possibly obtaining a claim in the Silverton Co. area and am always interested in further information regarding claims. A very informative site.

This is from a website posting an opinion paper by lawyerly types on potential liabilities for mine cleanup. I have no idea whether their statements are valid or not. But they certainly seem reasonable.

Well Now I have to look at things differently. I guess with actions such as these, it would be better just to squat until I am kicked out...LOL

Thanks you for the link to that information
