And finally here is the most presentable house in Ash Meadows in the Amargosa Valley Nevada it is for sale. It may be the only house everything else I saw were trailers many old and dilapidated. Oliver Roberts de La Fontaine talks about Ash Meadows in his memoirs which date back to 1870 and at one time Ash Meadows was the only populated place in that part of Nevada until Beatty and Rhyolite.

When did you move to Pahrump?

When I retire, I'm thinking Pahrump for winter living, perhaps Winnemucca during the summer. Death Valley and the Black Rock Desert are two favoristists places in the world.

Some pics of Greenwater and Death Valley Junction we took during our 2008 Summer Desert Trip:

Greenwater Valley looking north from hwy 178 just past Salsberry Pass.

Another view of Greenwater Valley from the GV trail, looking north towards Dante's View:

Death Valley Junction pics, not so great, these were taken by a sullen 14 year old teenage who thought having to take some pics while his old man was driving was akin to making dig a ditch. Oh well, kids, can't live with'em, can't kill'em!

We didn't get a pic of the old Death Valley Junction Opera House and I don't recall why we didn't stop in either. I don't recall seeing the "Cafe" pic that sbruce shows in one of his pics.

    Thanks,

    Al

    Default Cafe at DVJ

Yes the cafe at Death Valley Junction was closed for many years and recently re-opened. They actually have good strong coffee there. The motel next to the opera house is re-opened too, rates here:

Next time I will take more pics. There is a legend that the old hotel is haunted by the ghost of a girl who was allegedly murdered there but according to a former manager of the motel who lived there many years the stories are false and made up to get tourists.

Seven miles east from the Amargosa hotel you hit the Nevada state line where the Longstreet Casino is. That is a nice place and we stayed there mainly to gamble and get drunk. (just kidding)
