Absolutely GORGEOUS photos, Don!! WOW! I just love the colors & contrasts of each photo, they are works of art.

Do you ever run across scratches or other blemishes while scanning these old photos/negatives?

    Thank you Don!

Thanks Silver. Yes, there has been some damage from years of storage and poor processing on the part of the original developer (Kodak). I'm finding quite a few processing scratches and in these particular slides from Granite Creek I also found quite a bit of fungus starting to attack the slides. I have to process these things to get the fungus spots out and restore the color on almost all of these old slides. This is why I'm really pushing to get these things scanned and saved to DVD's and backed up a second time to an external hard-drive. What's weird is that the fungus is attacking certain groups (towns) of slides and leaving other groups alone, even thought they are stored in the same slide carousel. The boxes have all been stored in a cool, dry closet so that's not what is causing the problem. It may have something to do with the chemicals used in the original developing process.

    Very nice Don!

May I ask what scanner you are using? Is it a special one for slides?

Yup. It's a Nikon 5000 (now discontinued). It's a dedicated slide and film strip scanner. They're still available in the camera stores until the supply runs out.

What is wrong with this site? I posted two responses that simply disappeared.

To shorten my original response to this thread, thanks, Don, for all your hard work in making these photos available for us to enjoy. Now if only you could build a time machine...

Thanks Schiro. I enjoy doing it. I think we've already got the time machine. Old Vulture is as close as yur gonna get. He's old, living in the past, living on another planet and the real world has passed him by.

I reckon having to wear a skirt while a toddler can do that to people.
