    That is a nice drive from Burns down through Frenchglen, Fields. When we went we drove down to Fields and then back up to the highway on the east side of the Stiens. You sould be able to drive to the Alvord desert overlook. The road up starts close by Frenchglen also near Fields is Borax Hot lake. Still some old workings there for when they mined the Borax for soap. Yup the old 20 mule team Borax. Also be sure to stop and have a world famous milk shake at Fields!

    A real good resource is the benchmark atlas and Stanly Paher's book, Nevada Ghost and Mining Towns

    Oh yea meant to tell you Stan was instrumental in the mapping of the Nevada Atlas. In fact he did a lot of it

    You must see an almost perfect Ghost town in Dunton Hotsprings Colorado. This is a former mining camp with a lot of people during the 1905. Many people left the place when it was exhausted. Now the place can be rented for a special event like weddings. You can witness a vintage ambiance but cellphones are not allowed.
