Default Northern Nevada Ghosttowns and Mines

Been kind of quiet here, thought I would share links to pictures taken from last years trips. The first started out as a trip from Winnemucca up to the Jackson Mountains. We spotted a large tailings pile on the side of the mountain( it was white),and spotted a road that led up towards it. Iron was mined here. There are 3 mines here at different elevations. We could not make it up to the upper mine as the road was blocked from a rock fall.
Rather than posting all the pictures, I will share the link.

This is located on the west side of the Jackson Mountains.

I will add links to the other albums along the way.

The next areas we explored were Limerick and Rochester Canyons. From the Oreana exit on I-80, the paved road heads into Limerick Canyon. This road is paved all the way to the Couer Rochester Mine. The road to Rochester turns off to the right (south) before heading into Limerick canyon. Rochester Canyon is where the ghost town of Rochester is located. Lower Rochester is still accessible, upper Rochester has been blocked off by the Couer Rochester Mine.

The next ghost town we looked for was the town of Packard. It was located near Rochester, on Packard Flats. Alot of mining activity was in the area, including the large Nevada-Packard open pit mine. We did finally find it's main street, can dumps, and foundations. There is a good picture of it in Stan Paher's book. We also made a trip down American Canyon, looking for the ghost town of American Canyon. Found some ruins, a miners cabin, and a mine.

Thank you very much for posting the link to your photos. The Blackrock and surrounding mountains are my home away from home. The Jackson mountains will be my target of exploring come this spring. Again, thanks for sharing your pics!

Any modern map software will provide coordinates anywhere your cursor is placed.
