Default Wendover, Utah WWII Airfield - First "All access tour"

A year ago I was fortunate enough to be on the first "All access tour" of the historic Wendover Airfield in Tooele County Utah. (Near the Nevada border west of the Bonneville Salt Flats.) This has been the site of a few motion pictures including Con Air and Independence Day. It also has the hanger where the EnolaGay was kept prior to its famous mission to end WWII.

Here are some of my pictures of the current state these structures are in.

More pics below, please be patient for me to post them all before replying, thanks.

Sorry for the delay... my original post took a while to get posted.

Here are some more... The movie Con Air was filmed here and you might recognize some of these buildings.

This used to be surrounded by a building and I was told this is where they assembled the "mock" atomic bomb for practice drops.

    It's still an active airfield...

I was told this was used to test the effects of lightening on the Apollo rockets...

They would park the B-29s over this pit and they would raise up the bomb from underneath.

This smaller hanger was used in the movie Independence Day as the entrance to Area 51...

    The old hospital...

They are working on funding to get a few of these buildings back to their former glory and they are happy to give tours when they aren't too busy. I hope you enjoyed.

Great pics. I was able to take a near identical tour with the gents from ExpeditionUtah.com early last year. I highly recommend the tour for anyone that finds themselves in Wendover!
