    Default Interment Camps

The title was supposed to read "Internment Camps".

After seeing Manzanar over a dozen times over the past 40 years, I figured I'd start seeing as many of the "Internment Camps" where Japanese Americans and Japanese citizens were imprisoned during WWII.

Most are ghost towns, although the last one I visited (Tule Lake Segregation Center) is the town of Newell, CA. Some of the original buildings are still standing and are in use, but most were temporary and were demolished or moved long ago. Most of the remaining ones have been thoroughly remodeled.

Here are some photos from earlier this month:

The memorial plaque is on the side of the road, and the building under the protective roof is the original camp jail.

Tule Lake is known to this day in the Japanese American community as where the "disloyal" people were sent. It's kind of a long story.
