Default Executive Order and Gold Mining

While doing some research on a few ghost towns in Arizona, I stumbled across some information regarding a couple of Executive Orders issued by FDR which significantly changed gold mining in the US. One Executive Order actually made it illegal for US citizens to own gold (there were some exceptions). And all citizens were required to turn in their gold or face $10,000 in fines or 10 years in jail, or both. This also led to the rarest coin in the US, the 1933 double eagle gold coin.

This may be old news for many of you, but for a newbie like me, I found it fascinating. For a full story on how this affected gold mines in the US (and possibly why there are so little remains left), you can read my post at: http://www.experience-az.com/About/a...deoorders.html
