: Just happens to be that I lived in its sister town of Blackhawk as a kid. Matter of fact I lived in Colorado's 1st mantion, which was suppose to be in Blackhawk.

: I have not been their since leaving as a kid, but can tell you that I have many many many memories of the area including Central City. One of my friends parents actually owned the theater in Central City and they swore that it was haunted.

: I have heard that now it has lost a lot of its small town charms and is over ran by casinos? I am not sure if that is true or not, but find that hard to believe since it is way on top of a Mountian, and the only way to get to either town is a very long drive on a windy two lane road.

    : Thanks

: It's true all right...there was lot's of debate as to whether the roads would be widened, & improved, to accomodate the huge traffic flow. Of course you always had the folk that wanted to keep CC as it was, but I believe it will yield to "progress",

    : if it hasn't already.

: I was in the area recently (Denver, Golden, and Idaho Springs)and was advised by locals that Central City had become a gambling tourist trap and only a shadow of its former historical self. Every person I asked recommended I skip CC if I was only interested in history. Nearby Idaho Springs turned out to be very interesting; it has 3 underground mine tours: The Phoenix, The Argo, and the Edgar Mine (Colorado School of Mining's mine), all located within two miles of each other.
