Default GHOSTS OF THE WEST - award winning documentary film

    Hello all!

After eight years of research and travel plus another two of post-production, the documentary feature film GHOSTS OF THE WEST is finally coming to audiences this year. Shot entirely on motion picture film, the movie offers viewers a front row seat on a tour through the vanishing history of the Old West.

On September 29, 2012, Colorado-based independent production company Knight Sky Pictures held two test screenings of GHOSTS OF THE WEST at the historic Park Theatre in Estes Park, Colorado. The turnout caught everyone by surprise as one of the largest crowds of the theatre’s summer season began lining up outside the box office an hour in advance of showtime. Theatre employees even had to guard the one-sheets against theft by the patrons.

On February 16, 2013, a panel of movie- and television-industry executives, film critics, and academics gave GHOSTS OF THE WEST the Best Documentary Award at the annual Filmed in Utah Award ceremony. (Even though it had been shot across the West.)

Finally, just last week, we launched a "kickstarter" campaign to raise funds to cover the costs of a limited theatrical roadshow, a DVD release and the usage rights for the remaining historical images used in the film. (It's also the only way to get a DVD of the film until the roadshow is over.) After just 9 days, it's reached 64% of its funding goal!

The kickstarter site has a brief history of the film from inception to its award win and also includes the movie trailer:

The trailer can also be seen on IMDb, Vimeo, and YouTube. Those interested can also head on over to the film's official website at www.GHOSTSOFTHEWESTMOVIE.com to see the trailer, look over the production stills gallery, and learn more about the cast and crew. And finally, there's facebook.com/GhostsOfTheWestmovie where all news and updates are posted as they happen.

Default Best Documentary award winner GHOSTS OF THE WEST coming to theatres and DVD this May

The kickstarter campaign has hit its goal! Here is an update on our theatrical roadshow and the DVD release:

The first screening of GHOSTS OF THE WEST in Durango, Colorado will be at the Back Space Theatre at 7PM on Friday, May 31. Additional screenings will take place at 4PM and 7PM on Saturday, June 1, and Sunday, June 2. The filmmakers plan to be in attendance at all five shows (and plan to give a few things away too). The film will also play weekend matinees during the summer months. We currently are in talks with additional venues in Colorado and New Mexico and hope to have news on those in the short-term.

The DVDs will go to the replication facility by the beginning of May, but please be aware that they will NOT be available for sale (not even on our website) until the theatrical road show is over. The ONLY way to get a DVD before 2014 at the earliest is:

    1) purchase a copy from the limited supply the filmmakers will bring to the theatrical screenings they personally attend; or,
    2) guarantee yourself a copy by joining the kickstarter campaign within the next 33 hours (by Sunday, April 14, 9PM Mountain Time). The link is below. If you visit (even to find out more about the film that hasn't been posted elsewhere), be sure to check updates #4 and #5 for a clip from the film's prologue and a sample of the theme music, respectively:

Very cool looking venue. And we passed through Prescott on one of our earlier production trips. We'll put them on the list of theatres to contact. Thanks!

Unfortunately I missed the opportunity to help out with Kickstarter but would love to get a copy of this film. Please let us know when it becomes available for sale. I'll also be watching for a Utah screening for the public, any chance we could make that happen?

Default Ghosts of the West road show, DVD, and secondary fundraising campaign

Hi Kurt. Since theatres generally won't screen a film if their prospective ticket-buyers can get it on online, we are selling DVDs only at screenings we personally attend for the time being and have no specified date to begin offering it to the general public. Theatrical screenings are also most rewarding for us, as the Q&A sessions after each screening have been fascinating, and we've gotten the the opportunity to meet people who remember long-gone towns. (And when's the last time you found yourself with a rather large group of people who all shared a fascination with ghost towns and their history?)

Back to the DVD though--we have a secondary fundraising campaign going to help us expand the range and scope of the theatrical roadshow. All three pledge levels in that campaign include a DVD as part of the reward package. You can check that out here: www.ghostsofthewestmovie.com/store.html

Just in case you are in the area, our next firm screening date is in Fort Collins, Colorado on August 3 and our premiere event in Denver, Colorado is on September 26. We've had requests for Utah, Arizona, and Montana screenings and we'll start reaching out to those area theatres this fall. Details once they become available will be posted at ghostsofthewestmovie.com, but the latest news and ticket links (and rumors) always hit our facebook page first: www.facebook.com/GhostsOfTheWestmovie Liking us there would be the best way to stay in the loop (or join the mailing list at ghostsofthewestmovie.com)

Thanks for your interest in "Ghosts of the West"!

Thanks for the support. And if there's a venue (particularly an INDIE venue) in Utah where you'd like to see "Ghosts of the West" on the big screen, let us know. Most importantly though--TELL THE THEATRE YOU WANT THEM TO SHOW THIS MOVIE! When a theatre knows there are people willing and waiting to buy a ticket, they are more likely to get/keep the ball rolling to make the screening happen.

    Hi all!

The Durango weekend (May 31-June 2) screenings went extremely well. Many who had never been to the theatre before came just for "Ghosts of the West". Audiences consisted of 20-somethings to 80+ year olds, and ranged from above-average to exceptional in size for the theatre at each screening. Q&A sessions were lively to say the least and quite a number of folks remained behind to tell us their personal stories. (One gentleman quietly thanked us for telling his family's story--his family had settled in and taken part in some of the events described in the film.) Last night, the theatre requested the go-ahead to show the film for weekly Saturday matinees in the summer (we of course said yes).

Now some news for those along Colorado's Front Range that we're particularly excited about:
The Lyric Cinema in Fort Collins will host a screening on August 3 at 7PM, and our long-awaited DENVER PREMIERE EVENT with cast and crew will be held at the LANDMARK ESQUIRE THEATRE on September 26 at 7PM. Tickets for the Esquire went on sale yesterday afternoon and they've already begun selling! Kickstarter VIPs needn't worry--their reserved-seat tickets have already been pulled. For all others--tickets can be purchased at the theatre box office, or online at either:

tickets.landmarktheatres.com (this is directly through Landmark Theatres and is similiar to many other online ticketing sites for movie theatres)
ghostsofthewestmovie.com/screening_dates.html (this is directly through production company Knight Sky Pictures, which will mail specially printed Event Tickets directly to your door)

The production company is also offering discounts to groups for bulk ticket purchases (not available through Landmark).

Thanks to all for supporting "Ghosts of the West". Remember to like us at facebook.com/GhostsOfTheWestmovie to get instant updates (and a few rumors) as they happen!

Here's a shot of our venue. It doesn't quite do it justice as it's much larger than it appears in the photo--you can't even see the left aisle!
