Default Amboy, CA and Roy's Cafe (Old US 66)

Amboy used to have population around 60 people and was found back in 1858. The current population is only 2 people and for all intents and purposes it’s a ghost town. Most people have seen Amboy in movies however as Roy’s Café was used in several movies most notably the Hitcher. This is one of the few places east of Ludow you can get gas, albeit at about $5 dollars a gallon for regular unleaded! The Café was reopened back in 2007 and I think it now serves coffee. The salt pan close to the town is the Bristol Dry Lake. I know the whole town was purchased a couple years ago for $425,000 dollars.

This one just got up, it needed more pics. This along with Oatman are probably the best two ghost towns on Route 66.Name: IMG07572-20120928-0815.jpg

We loved Amboy; great pictures you've posted. The cafe is open with basically just drinks and snacks but it's a great place to spend a couple of hours there, at the very least!

The last time I was there I actually picked up an Amoby, CA shirt in the cafe. Its pretty bare but its a full service station now with all three gas grades and public restrooms. Usually I would pass through CA 62 up to Amboy Road and over on Old 66 on my way to Bullhead City from Palm Springs it was nice to see a place that was friendly on top of reliable to stop at. When I was there last CALTRANS was finally starting to repave parts of Old 66 west of Amboy Road around the Crater, gives me hope for the other Old US 66 segments if California is actually throwing money for maintenance.
