: After checking out the advise that George was kind enough to provide, I foun 18 listings in Pa. Obviously, the listing here is not a complete list but it is a great place to start. There are a wide variety of other resources available to help you find the information you need. Your local library is a great place to start! Any good librarian can help you use the reference section to locate local historical documents that will give you locations, industries, post office establishment, post office closures, and much more. Please don't hesitate to e-mail me for anything that I may be able to help you with.

: C-man, much obliged fer the accolades..now if I can only live up to them....
: Mandy, I have a site in "favs" called GTUSA...
: From the home page, click on the word "exploring", between the 2 color pics. Next page, scroll down
: 3/4 page to "GHOST TOWNS" in orange letters. Scroll down and click on "Ghosttown USA", located right above "links". This takes you to 3rd page, which is "50 States" list. Some states are active, some not, but PA is active. I counted 21 towns in PA, + reference to civil war era deserted towns, and hundreds of old forts.

I can suggest a few ghosttowns around the pittsburgh area. One is between Freeport PA and Butler called West Winfield. It is easy access due to the road bisecting it and has parking where the old railroad crossed. I currently am trying to add it to the list because it has a facinating history and it disappeared as quickly as it popped up.
