Default This is a VERY OLD post...

Cary Nickel posted this note a couple of years ago.

He was referencing the mining claim of Sylvania in Esmeralda county(see the Nevada page on this site)...

The cabins did have typewritten sheets of paper in them asking visitors to respect the property. Also on the sheets was the owners name and phone number. The owner stated that he was willing to sell the claim... It was NOT a patented claim-new owner would NOT own the land...

    Question Question

Did this place ever get sold, and what was the name of the town? Ten years ago the real nice completely functional town of Playas, New Mexico was for sale for three and a half million dollars which was cheap because all of the buildings were in excellant condition and the streets were all paved. But there were no takers, then the US Army bought the town and used it as a war practice zone thus shooting up and slowly destroying the town which was a real shame as it was livable when they bought it.
I hope that does not happen to anymore ghost towns.

buy only patented claims, otherwise you miss the paperwork and your $$ is gone, plus the govt can reclaim mine sites that are claimed, patented claims are as indicated, private, and cannot be touched (but they will try to bully you for closures)
Best thing you can do is educate people that hard rock mines are not dangerous, given stats from OGM they are about the safest places you can go and NOT get hurt. educate, educate, educate!!
